GRETEL

A Logan Square MUST VISIT! A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of dining at Gretel located on Armitage. The inside of this restaurant is dark and cozy and immediately when you step in the door you are drawn to the wall full of liquor! That's right, the left side of the restaurant has a bar that stretches from front to back showcasing bottles and rolling ladders, which we can't help but think reminds us of Beauty and the Beast! This spot does not accept reservations so we added our names to the waitlist and headed downstairs to the basement lounge. The lounge totally gives off speakeasy vibes and is perfect to share an appetizer and sip on some cocktails. Vintage couches are sectioned off and positioned for groups or couples to cozy up. We chose the pretzel which was warm, buttery and AMAZING!

We headed upstairs for dinner and were sat at the chef's counter. Guests can also be sat at a table, booth, or bar. The chef's counter is great for a intimate date night spot or catching up with a friend. Our favorite thing about the menu is that it is small (we don't like to have too many choices) but wow, does it have a variety for all types of eaters. Gretel serves everything from ramen, sandwiches, white fish, pasta and so much more! The lobster roll was outstanding, served with fries and the waitress gave us the choice of being served as hot or cold. We chose cold: mayo, lemon and celery salt! Prime Rib French Dip was another order, delicious but wow did we regret not order the Gretel Griddle Burger! I am craving the side of blistered shishito peppers to this day! Roasted with kewple mayo, togarashi and friend garlic.

We highly recommend this spot. The service was attentive and friendly. This was the perfect compliment to the quality of the food and beautiful ambiance. If you are looking for a goto "impress your friends" spot, put this at the top of your list! We will definitely be back!
