A Timeless Neutral Nursery: Remi

Updated: Jan 9, 2021

I will begin this post by declaring that I am NOT an interior decorator. I don’t follow trends for furniture styles and I am completely oblivious to a “theme.” Traditional..Contemporary..Shabby Chic..this is all foreign language to me. If I had to categorize our design for the nursery it would be timeless.

When we found out we were expecting, I had visions of a gray beige wonderland filled with neutral colors and furniture. I spent hours looking up themes and colors. Fast forward to finding out we were having a girl and my sudden hatred of pink was blinded by magical images of blush and rose gold. Neutral colors were introduced to balance out the brightness of the space.

The nursery in our home is small in size so I wanted to keep the room light to feel larger to the visitor’s eye. We painted the room in Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray. This was an easy choice for us since you can find this color throughout the rest of our home.

Most nurseries will have a focal point wall or piece centered over the crib. Remi’s name above her crib is one of my favorite pieces in the room. We purchased this piece from BellAndTheWhistle on Etsy. David and Laura Bell provided wonderful customer service sending multiple text mockups and quick responses. The quality of this piece is outstanding and the picture doesn’t do it justice.

Paper flowers were purchased for the opposite wall to be hung above the dresser and changing pad. Partygraphicstudiofl was able to customize colors to fit our room. We chose blush, dusty rose and cream. The leaves are rose gold to compliment her name. Installation was easy and took seconds to secure.

The use of lighting can enhance the overall appeal of a room. We chose a flush mount chandelier from Pottery Barn Kids. This piece is bright and adds a bit of charm to the nursery. Although my fixture is currently unavailable for purchase, there are many similar options on their site. Remi loves the sparkle!

The Sorrelle Providence crib and dresser set was purchased from BuyBuyBaby in Heritage Fog. With conversion kits, the crib can transition to a toddler or full bed. The Soho Swivel Glider by Karla Dubois was very affordable compared to others I had found and was purchased as a set with the ottoman from Wayfair. I waited until the day after Thanksgiving to purchase the set and the sale price was a significantly different from the original. Canvas was our color choice which reminds me of an oatmeal. The texture of this set is durable and the chair is extremely comfortable. We also purchased the Desdemona Hand-Tufted Blush Area Rug by House of Hampton from Wayfair. Rugs can be hit or miss when ordering online and I was pleasantly surprised with this purchase!

Some of my favorite accents in the room include her Pottery Barn Kids chair in blush. The chair can be personalized with a name and comes in a variety of colors. This must have item is low to the ground making it easily accessible for kids. The ball pit photographed above is one of Remi's favorite toys. The handmade item was ordered from Amazon in pink, the fabric is lightweight and breathable. The ball pit holds balls that are BPA (bisphenol A) free and crush proof. These items have made her nursery an inviting space to play and lounge.

My mission was to make the nursery a cozy and intimate space. As Remi gets older we spend more and more time in her nursery reading books and playing with toys. This room has become one of my favorites. It is delicate and simple. Decorating is no easy task and I can thank Pinterest for the inspiration. I am happy with our final product even though it seems to be a work in progress. I am currently accepting recommendations for bookshelves. If you have a favorite, be sure to send it my way!
